The ideal candidate will share Reedley College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently enroll over 10,000 students of which 71% are Latinx, 1% are Filipino, 3% are Asian, 2% are African American, 19% are White, and 3% are multiracial. RC is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
The counselor will perform the following:
* Evaluate verification of disability documentation, identify functional limitations and arrange for appropriate and reasonable accommodations which address those limitations.
* Develop/revise Student Educational Contracts (SECs) and Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for students with disabilities.
* Facilitate accommodations such as note taking, adaptive equipment, ASL interpreting, testing accommodations, etc.
* Assist students in the matriculation process, and utilize multiple criteria and placement tests to determine appropriate class placement.
* Provide specialized academic, career, personal, and disability management counseling to adult students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
* Monitor and track students’ academic performance and progress in degree objectives to assure effective use of services and successful attainment of program objectives.
* Maintain confidential records; accurately record and complete data entry of information needed to complete mandated reports and service records.
* Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities and work with instructors, counselors, faculty, other college staff and community resources to assist students in the pursuit of their educational goals.
* Participate in professional development activities, program development and review, student activities, high school outreach, and faculty committees.
* Participate and assist with in-service training for faculty, staff, and community.
* Monday-Friday, some evenings and Saturdays may be required.
* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of an earned master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling;
OR - An earned master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling;
OR - A bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); AND either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities, OR two years of fulltime experience; OR the equivalent, in one or more of the following;
- Counseling for students with disabilities; or
- Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities:

- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires and equivalency);
OR - A valid California Community College Credential.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
* Include experience counseling with students in college level disabled students programs.
* Experience working with students of various cultural backgrounds.
* Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized student in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
* Willingness to examine and remediate one’s relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized student.
* Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
* Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
* Demonstrated experience with learning disabilities assessment.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
* Demonstrated ability to use technology.
* Ability to work and plan independently.
* Ability to contribute to the college and center’s institutional vitality and growth.
* Experience working with students of various cultural backgrounds.

Salary and Benefits
Starting rates are $38.30 – $52.05 for non-instructional. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
