DESCRIPTION

Biomedical Informatics is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of biology, medicine, and quantitative sciences. Biomedical informatics researchers develop new methods to integrate and analyze vast amounts of data generated in the laboratory, clinical and translational research, clinical encounters, and population studies.

The goals of the Division of Biomedical Informatics are to (1) promote excellence in biomedical informatics research, (2) collaborate with biomedical researchers in developing new quantitative methods that enable the formulation and testing of original hypotheses, (3) train the next generation of biomedical informatics specialists, and (4) interface with engineering, mathematics, information and computer science communities, serving as a hub for quantitative scientists focused on biomedical research.

This division leads multiple federally and non-profit funded biomedical research projects, which are focused on the integration, analysis, and sharing of biomedical and health care data for the scientific community, as well as patient-centered research. In addition, the department runs a complex computational infrastructure that allows access and analysis of these data in a privacy-preserving manner.

Under supervision, the Research Project Manager will be responsible for providing administrative and decision analysis in support of a research initiative. They will contribute to developing, strategizing and executing plans to meet goals set by the Department and/or funding organization. The incumbent will be responsible for reporting, contributions to grant renewals/reports and development of presentations and manuscripts.

Incumbent will provide short- and long-term resource review and analysis, projections and recommendations in all areas of the project, including sourcing and collecting information from a wide variety of internal and external sources, analyzing and summarizing reports and evaluating progress and recommending alternatives to meet program objectives.

Incumbent will serve as a supervisor to research assistants and other research support teams as required by projects. Work both independently and as part of a team, advising and directing work of research associates/support team, students and interns.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Strong decision making skills and ability to use independent judgment and discretion to quickly set priorities and establish new procedures when needed. Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, recommend, communicate, and implement solutions. Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Must function independently with minimal direction.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Utilize tact, diplomacy and flexibility with the ability to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with staff, faculty and students. Ability to express verbally or in writing, information on one's position, plan of action, evaluation or interpretation in a professional, logical, clear, effective, concise, and courteous manner. Skill at negotiating with various personalities and developing internal and external network of contacts.

  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs. Solid computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email. Ability to use software to create reports, charts and presentations to be used in publications and grants. Ability to learn new programs with minimal direction.

  • Knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.

  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Strong policy analysis techniques.

  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to keep meticulous, accurate and well-organized records of research data and to analyze, interpret, report and record research results.

  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating, recruiting, and consenting human subjects for research projects. Proven experience developing and submitting IRB and regulatory documents for human subjects research.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals across the range of ethnicity, cultures, socioeconomic conditions, academic and professional backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and other personal factors, both inside and outside the organization.

  • Proven ability to develop, refine, assess, and improve upon broadly outlined research studies Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), projects and protocols.

  • Experience with training and supervising others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fluent in speaking and writing Spanish and English is preferred.

  • Ten (10) or more years of relevant experience preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing and able to travel.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

  • May be required to use own vehicle for work purposes and must maintain University-required levels of insurance.

  • Overtime and weekends may be required.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,200 - $119,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.18 - $57.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
