Position Summary 
With numerous departments and schools contributing to Fordham’s dynamic 
community, the University Marketing and Communications division is embarking 
on an exciting journey to develop a new plan for internal communications. 
 
The Assistant Director for Internal Communications will play a pivotal role in 
shaping the future of internal communications at Fordham. Reporting to the 
Senior Director of University Communications, they will work closely with the 
communications team to develop and implement a bold, comprehensive strategy 
that fosters a culture of communication, collaboration, and transparency. You will 
write articles, newsletters, and website copy, ensuring consistent and clear 
communication of relevant news and information to internal stakeholders in a way 
that engages and inspires them. They will also manage a content specialist for 
internal communications. 
 
This role requires an excellent writer and creative thinker with a passion for 
organization/process who can develop collegial relationships within a large, 
diverse University. 
 
This is a hybrid position that requires three days in the office each week. The role 
is based at our Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan but will require frequent 
travel to our Bronx campus and occasional travel to other city locations. 
 
Essential Functions 
Strategic Planning: 
Collaborates with the Senior Director of University Communications to 
develop and execute an innovative, engaging, and effective internal 
communications plan for key university initiatives, events, and milestones. 
Works toward fostering a culture of communication and collaboration 
across departments and schools. 
 
Content Development: 
Writes, creates, and curates compelling content for internal communication 
channels, ensuring consistency and clarity in messaging. Crafts messages 
that resonate with diverse audiences and reflect Fordham’s brand, 
mission, and values. Incorporate relevant news and information on 
platforms frequently engaged by internal constituents, including faculty, 
staff, and students. 
 
Editorial Excellence: 
Ensures the quality and consistency of internal communications by editing 
and proofreading content for accuracy and adherence to brand guidelines. 
Maintains a unified voice and messaging across all communication 
channels, meeting internal constituents where they are. 
 
Collaborative Engagement: 
Builds relationships with stakeholders across departments and schools to 
gather information and share best practices. Serves as a liaison between 
the communications team and internal partners to facilitate communication 
initiatives and creative dissemination plans. 
 
Measurement and Evaluation: 
Works with the communications team and establishes metrics to measure 
the effectiveness of internal communication efforts. Analyzes data and 
feedback to inform decision-making and continuously improve
communication strategies, effectively meeting internal constituents’ needs. 
 
Management: 
Manages a content specialist for internal communications who will be 
writing content and collecting and curating information for faculty, staff, and 
students. Serve as an editor for this content specialist

Management Responsibilities 
Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual 
contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing 
performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in 
compensation decisions. 
 
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience 
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a 
related field 
Minimum of 5 years of experience in internal communications, corporate 
communications, or related roles 
 
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills 
Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to distill complex 
information into clear, concise messages 
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work 
effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders 
Excellent organizational skills 
Experience developing and implementing communication plans or 
strategies 
Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to 
the goals of Jesuit Education. 
 
Preferred Qualifications 
Experience in higher education or large organizational settings 
Familiarity with content management systems and digital communication 
tools 
Knowledge of best practices in employee engagement and internal 
communication measurement 
 
Minimum Starting Salary: $80,000 
 
Maximum Starting Salary: $90,000 
 
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
