Overview
Come join our Human Resources Team as a Compensation Specialist (Compensation Analyst) for Utah State University! Our Compensation Specialists oversee the University staff compensation program, evaluate pay competitiveness, and provide guidance to department leadership on compensation policies and compliance. In this role you will work with a portfolio of departments to build lasting and effective relationships to meet compensation and classification needs. This is a full-time position eligible for excellent benefits including: 13 paid holidays, 22 days of paid leave and 12 days of sick leave per year, competitive health benefits packages, and a generous contribution of 14.2% (without an employee contribution) into your retirement. Responsibilities
  • Conduct position audits and determine appropriate classification and pay levels for new positions and reclassifications.
  • Evaluate salary surveys and analyze the Universitys salaries against market data to ensure competitive positioning.
  • Conduct annual benchmarking of jobs and provide recommendations on grade changes and salary structure movement.
  • Work with departments to draft and approve new job descriptions as necessary.
  • Provide information, education, and advice on market practices, trends, analysis and data related to compensation to supervisors and administration. Make recommendations in accordance with established policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Approve electronic personnel action forms. Serve as a consultant to the human resources team in addressing and resolving issues.
  • Serve as a resource to university personnel in addressing human resources needs.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of new and existing programs and processes in compensation and classification.
  • Conduct research to remain current in compensation and classification laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Serve on committees or teams to improve processes or services.



Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
  • Four years of Human Resources related experience OR a bachelors degree and some background in Human Resources related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to analyze and interpret large datasets to determine compensation trends.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and familiarity with software tools like Excel or Human Resource analytics platforms.
  • Understanding of labor laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards related to compensation.
  • Clear and concise communication skills to explain compensation policies and practices to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to analyze and document compensation data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and advise on the application of laws related to compensation and classification.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
