POSITION TITLE: Staff Scientist
The Staff Scientist will function as the Cryo-electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) Liaison for structural biology studies at Scripps Research. This role involves preparing samples for electron microscopy analyses, acquiring data, and conducting image processing. Additionally, the applicant will provide training in cryo-EM methodologies to new users and contribute to ongoing technological developments in cryo-EM at Scripps Research.
The EM Liaison will assess the suitability of samples for structural investigation and offer guidance on sample optimization for EM analyses. They will conduct pilot studies demonstrating feasibility on the 120 keV Spirit, 200 keV F20, or 200 keV Talos 200C, followed by high-resolution cryo-EM studies on promising samples using the 200 keV Arctica or 300 keV Titan Krios, in collaboration with users.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:- The Staff Scientist will work in the EM facility at Scripps Research and will be responsible for transporting liquid nitrogen tanks.
- Further details regarding the physical demands associated with established essential functions will be discussed during the interview process.
- Ph.D. in Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline is required.
- Minimum of 2 years postdoctoral or equivalent experience in cryo-EM is required.
