Position Title: Research Assistant III
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Jin lab in Dorris Neuroscience Center at Scripps Research is seeking an energetic, bright, and highly motivated individual with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and bioengineering are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will work directly with the principal investigator and collaborate with existing lab members to advance the project, and gain valuable bench-side and analytical experience in a fast-paced research environment. In addition, will oversee the day-to-day workings of the lab and the space allocation, equipment maintenance, and overall lab safety. Will perform these duties smoothly while handling additional matters as they arise.
Plan and conduct complex or novel research projects that involve the performance of non-routine procedures, development of new or improved techniques and evaluation criteria, thorough data analysis and complex interpretations of results; assist in designing experiments; operate sophisticated scientific lab equipment; may plan and conduct a small or average size project or a large portion of a more diverse project; may supervise or provide work direction and training to a small staff of professional-level employees; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Perform non-routine procedures and resolve complex problems where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of intangible variables. Exercise judgement in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Fully competent and proficient in performing complex interpretations and analyses. Mastery of specialized lab techniques and evaluation of problems. May plan and conduct a project or a large portion of a more diverse project.
- Fully competent and proficient in operating sophisticated scientific lab equipment, having ability to perform complex procedures and techniques with accuracy.
- Responsibilities typically include one or more of the following:
In supervisory capacity, plans, organizes, and directs assigned projects. Supervises small staff of professional level employees. - Perform complex or novel assignments requiring development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Demonstration of initiative, creative, and appropriate problem solving, and troubleshooting proficiency to advance scientific goals is essential.
- Facilitate mouse colony management, performing molecular biology and library preparation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years' experience.
- Candidates possessing a master's degree, 3+ years' experience required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $68,000 - $81,600 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
