Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a FT Facilities Materials Specialist. The work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00 – 4:30pm This is a bargaining, non- exempt, grade 21 position. Under supervision and/or direction, incumbents in this job class provide oversight for construction, maintenance and repair materials for college renovation projects.

Contacts and interacts vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as direct interaction with faculty, colleagues, managers, directors, students, vendors, assigned staff, contractors and consultants for the purpose of providing and receiving instructions and information.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Complete requisitions, place orders, pick up and deliver materials to job site.
  • Obtain oral and written quotes from vendors on pricing and availability.
  • Plan and coordinate the scheduling of contract services with the job superintendent and faculty/staff in the affected area.
  • Ensure proper billing and credits are posted to accounts/funds.
  • Notify project managers of projected lead times and revision changes to establish reliable completion date.
  • Comply with all OSHA issues including but not limited to storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Supply Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for safe usage and emergency situations.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, county and local guidelines regarding the awarding of contracts and ethical standards of spending public funds.
  • Comply with college security on loss prevention and liability on storage issues of college property.
  • Consult with, and advise users on, materials required to perform facilities maintenance functions.
  • Review plans and specifications for proper preparation of material descriptions, identify providers, requisition material from the lowest bidders; accept delivery of materials for internal disbursement to tradesmen.
  • Prepare technical specifications, review and evaluate bid documents, and make recommendations for final bid awards.
  • Support emergency repairs and maintenance by expediting identification, location, purchase, and delivery of required materials.
  • Maintain project files, labor distribution records, project status reports, and project material cost.
  • Schedule projected time frame for deliveries and contracted services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, or trade/technical school graduate
  • Completion of a program in procurement management or construction technology.
  • Training in inventory control procedures.
  • Two years of experience in stockroom/warehouse operations, procurement/purchasing procedures, and construction renovation.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Hiring Range $22.89 to $29.74 hourly. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.  Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
