Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, coaches will work with youth of various ages. Coaches must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers. Coaches will supervise and assist in activities for all Aquatic sport or camp sessions. Coaches ensure the safety and well-being of players while they are in their care.

Essential Functions

  • To know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army (TSA).
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide building blocks for healthy development for youth programming and daily interactions.
  • Assist in the leading of all sports and recreation activities with enthusiasm - according to training protocol established.
  • Keep player issues confidential. Do not share issues with other players, parents, news organizations, volunteers, or staff members who are not involved.
  • Facilitate player check in and out procedures.
  • Perform regular head counts and keep an accurate attendance list of assigned players. Plan activities, lesson plans, and supervision of activity stations with the help of other coaches as needed.
  • Return program equipment to appropriate designated area upon completion of activity with group unless otherwise arranged.
  • Communicate respectfully with peers, supervisors, and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Handle disputes with participants and parents in a professional manner with guidance from the Aquatics Manager.
  • Ensure the safe use of the facility and execution of activities through enforcement of facility and activity-specific regulations and ensuring that only registered players participate.
  • Maintain a safe working environment; report any and all facility defects/problems and any suspicious activities or persons to the Aquatics Manager.
  • Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants. Follow up with completion of appropriate paperwork as directed.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift & carry 40lbs.
  • Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by Health Department & The Salvation Army.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the high demands of aquatics department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum two years' seasonal experience as an Aquatics Coach or Sport's and Recreational Coach.
  • Must possess and maintain current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED, and Oxygen/Epinephrine Administration.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Must be able to design high-quality, up-to-date, scientifically sound, safe and effective Aquatic training sessions for a variety of student ability levels.
  • Must uphold the scope and practice of Aquatic fitness professionals.
  • Ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with coworkers and participants.
  • Must have the ability to instruct with proficiency, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well in English required; bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Qualifications

Experience
2 years: Seasonal experience as an Aquatics Coach or Sport's and Recreational Coach (preferred)

Skills
  • CPR/AED (preferred)
