Required Qualifications:

  • Have a master’s degree in a health-related field and have a minimum of two (2) years of related experience. Be an Allied Health Professional (including but not limited to registered nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, nursing home administrators, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist), licensed and in good standing.
  • Successful experience in teaching at the college level or providing student clinical instruction is preferred.
  • Experience working with ethnically diverse and rural student populations; to include working with underprepared students. Demonstrates an appreciation for and understanding of the unique needs of the student in both academic and vocational disciplines in the health and medical field.
  • Maintaining licensure as necessary during employment is required.
  • Current New Mexico License, or a compact state license, or eligibility to obtain a New Mexico license to practice as an Allied Health Professional.

Equivalency:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field with four (4) years of related experience and must be willing to obtain a master’s degree within five (5) years of hire. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess all the other necessary required qualifications.

Located in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. SENMC offers Early College and Dual Credit programs in collaboration with local high schools.

Southeast New Mexico College enjoys the strong support of its community, and has been awarded several grants, which include $11.7 million from the U.S. Department of Energy and several multimillion-dollar grants from the U.S. Department of Education for student support.

The Dual Credit Program at Southeast New Mexico College provides high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school. These credits could count for both a college degree/certificate and high school requirements. Students can take college-level courses at SENMC campus, online, or at their high school campus (course offerings may vary based on high school).

Position Summary:

Southeast New Mexico College is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track position in Allied Health. The accepted job candidate will teach dual-credit courses in Allied Health at Artesia High School. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development through participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities, and organizations. As the faculty member strives for success in this role, their supervisor will provide guidance, feedback, and support.

Requirements for the Position:

Will be assigned to teach on a 9-month contract of 15 credit hours per semester. Carries out a 5/5 teaching load of 100 and 200-level classes. Holds regular office hours in accordance with the policies established in the Faculty Manual. Teaching duties include teaching college courses effectively to a diverse student body of high school students, conducting ongoing assessments of courses, and developing courses. College service commitments include participating in professional development activities and serving on various committees for the benefit of Southeast New Mexico College and Artesia High School. Evaluates student performance and instructional methods using the college’s established system of assessment. Serves as a member of the college’s various governance committees and task forces to promote institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning. Collaborates with other departments in regard to interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training. Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee meetings at both SENMC and AHS. Performs other duties as assigned. Since this position requires in-person teaching and other in-person faculty duties, the candidate will be required to live within commuting distance of Artesia High School.

Duties:

The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.   • Delivers in person classroom instruction that supports the learning outcomes of the Allied Health courses, including but not limited to Medical Terminology, Introduction to Pathophysiology, Introduction to Pharmacology, Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology, and Legal/Ethics of Healthcare.
  • Must be willing to teach Monday through Friday or in alignment with the Artesia High School schedule.
  • Must participate in professional development activities.
  • Evaluates student performance and instructional methods using the college’s established system of assessment.
  • Plans, designs, and provides laboratory instruction which reflects an understanding of the course’s objectives and curriculum. Evaluates student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes related to the knowledge and practice of both nursing and allied health professions.
  • Serves as a member of the high school’s and college’s various governance committees and task forces to promote institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning.
  • Holds regular office hours in accordance with the policies established in the Faculty Manual or is available for parents and students as needed.
  • Collaborates with other departments regarding interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training.
  • Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee meetings.
  • Stays abreast of trends, advancements, and changes within the health and medical field; adjusts curriculum to align with industry changes and workforce demands.
  • Participates in Program Advisory Boards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
