A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Hui-Ying Lim at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). Our lab studies intercellular and endocrine signaling of the heart using the Drosophila model.

For the intercellular signaling branch, we will investigate the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in regulating septate junction proteins that directs the non-myocyte control of cardiomyocyte function. We will also interrogate the mechanism by which the unfolded protein response of the endoplasmic reticulum (UPRER) is activated in an intercellular manner from the non-myocytes to the cardiomyocytes. For the endocrine signaling branch, we will study the role of the heart in maintaining whole-body lipid homeostasis, specifically through downstream players including secreted thioester-containing protein Tep2 and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway in the fat tissue.

Motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in biological sciences and with a strong background in molecular and cell biology, genetics, developmental biology or protein biochemistry are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be proficient in verbal and written English.
