O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center

Job Description

F232601

Mentor: Dr. Rui Lu, O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center

The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invite applications for two NIH grant-funded Postdoctoral Research Scientist positions in Dr. Rui Lu's laboratory. The Lu lab primarily focuses on investigating the epigenetic mechanisms that drive cancer development, with a special emphasis on hematological malignancies like acute myeloid leukemia. We combine both experimental and computational methodologies, utilizing genomic profiling and bioinformatics approaches across a range of cancer model systems. For a closer look at our work, please refer to our recent publications: Nature 2018; Cancer Cell 2016; Cancer Research 2019; Elife 2020; Blood Advances 2021; Leukemia 2023 and visit our website: https://www.lu-lag.org

Qualifications

We welcome candidates who are nearing the completion of their PhD or MD, or those who already have their doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, computational biology, or related disciplines. While we are particularly interested in individuals with prior experience in gene regulation, bioinformatics, chromatin biochemistry, or transgenic mouse models, this is not a prerequisite. Candidates with experience in chromatin biology, leukemia biology, knowledge in bioinformatics, and/or proficiency in programming languages such as R and/or Python, will be given priority. The selected candidates will have the opportunity to forge multidisciplinary collaborations and gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge genetic (CRISPR/Cas9, genome-wide screening) and genomic (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, and single cell omics) technologies to deepen their understanding of epigenetics and cancer. UAB offers a vibrant work environment, competitive salary, and an attractive benefits package.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should email their detailed CV and a cover letter outlining their research interests and career goals to Dr. Rui Lu at This email address is being protected from spambots.
