Responsibility Summary

The Chief People & Culture Officer (CPCO) ensures that the children and families served at ChicagoCAC receive the best possible services through the oversight and implementation of consistent, streamlined people and culture processes and talent activities for individual employees, managers and the agency. The CPCO leads the agency’s workplace culture, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. The CPCO participates in executive team member meetings and agency leadership meetings, and works collaboratively with colleagues in strategic planning, overall agency oversight, budget preparation and management, and board engagement.

 


Primary Responsibilities:


 

  • Own the facilitation and integration of all talent and strategy-focused planning activities for the agency, including workforce planning, organizational design, talent/succession planning, and change management
  • Responsible for overall assessment of Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center’s organizational culture and development; develop strategies that foster high performance, seamless teamwork and desired retention rates
  • Own our diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives
  • Spearhead the workplace culture initiative, including the work of the Interest and Advisory Groups (IAGs). Expands program outreach and increases participation rates among staff and agency partners
  • Partner with agency leaders to identify employee and leadership development needs, performance improvement and organizational effectiveness interventions. Provide counsel and development coaching to leaders and develop and execute strategies to address opportunities
  • Lead and develop the total rewards program that would recruit and retain the best and brightest staff to meet the organization’s needs. Collect and evaluate data including compensation, retention, turnover, diversity, etc. and use this analysis to meet and modify ChicagoCAC goals
  • Consult and advise on routine employee relations and discipline matters, in collaboration with pro-bono counsel when needed. Moves issues to resolution, achieving the best possible results for both the agency and its employees.
  • Facilitate and advise on all programmatic people and culture activities (goal setting, performance reviews, talent planning, staff engagement, salary planning, etc.)
  • Oversee creation, implementation and updates of the personnel manual, agency policies and procedures, and employee communications to ensure compliance, appropriateness, and value.
  • Provide orientation, or ensures orientation is provided, for all new employees on ChicagoCAC personnel policies, procedures and benefits
  • Design and maintain a comprehensive professional development and training plan for agency staff, including leadership development for supervisors.
  • Review and oversee the creation of all job descriptions and ensures that all staff have a current signed, accurate job description in their file
  • Create, implement, and manage the staff performance evaluation process
  • Ensure that personnel files and human resources policies meet the requirements of our contractual obligations
  • Ensure proper hiring, terminating, and performance management protocols are being followed with respect to ChicagoCAC policy and relevant laws and statutes
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of changing employment regulations and other statutes, policies, and circumstances that affect the workforce
  • Partner with senior leadership to provide guidance and direction in the development and execution of a functional people and culture strategy
  • As a member of the executive team, the CPCO will:
  • Act on behalf of the CEO as needed and directed
  • Attend board meetings and assigned board committee meetings
  • Engage in strategic planning, budget development, and in making critical agency decisions
  • Partner with senior leadership to provide guidance and direction in the development and execution of a functional people and culture strategy
  • Lead agency-focused projects as requested
  • Participate in local networking and training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 


Discretion

The Chief People & Culture Officer has a high-level range of discretion and independent decision-making.

 


Supervisory Responsibilities

The Chief People & Culture Officer directly supervises the People & Culture Manager, and Talent Acquisition Specialist.

 


Supervisory staff are expected to participate either as volunteers or paid attendee at organization fundraisers. Supervisory staff are also expected to participate in ChicagoCAC sponsored client/staff/community events. It is expected that our supervisory staff participate in as many of these events as possible.

 


Relationships

The Chief People & Culture Officer works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial and Operations Officer, and members of the executive leadership team. The CPCO also engages with key board members who interact with the ChicagoCAC with regards to organizational development.

 


Qualifications

Minimum educational requirement of a bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s Degree in either Human Resources or an MBA preferred. At least 10 years of experience in human resources, with at least 5 years in a high-level role and managing teams required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, workplace, with a willingness to learn and adapt in an ever-changing environment. Must possess excellent management skills, professional written and verbal skills, including report writing and presentation and organizational skills. SPHR Certification is preferred, with an expectation to obtain SPHR certificate if not currently certified.

    • Taxable spending may be used for health club membership, fitness activities, tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment, among other options.
    • Paid Time Off (“PTO”): PTO starts accruing the first day of employment and accrues at a rate of 35 days in a 12-month period.
    • PTO days are used for all days off, including holidays and sick time so you have maximum flexibility in the use of your PTO.
    • Timing of vacations may be dependent on client needs, as that’s our first priority.
    • PTO goes up to 40 days after 5 years.
    • Additional PTO for FMLA-related reasons up to 20 days.
    • A remote work policy that provides flexibility in work hours so long as operational needs are met.
    • Regular expert training on evidence-based therapy modalities, which includes being able to earn Continuing Education Units.
    • A wonderful facility dog (Mac) who provides comfort and support to our kids and loves staff visits when he’s not working.
    • The ability to wear jeans and enjoy afternoon milk and cookies every Friday!
