Nurse Coordinator

Job Description

We are seeking a Pediatric Orthopedic Nurse Coordinator who will be a part of the care team to improve continuity of care for pediatric orthopedic patients, coordinating the early post-discharge check-ins and expand clinician accessibility by managing and if necessary, triaging incoming patient issues. In addition, the nurse coordinator would help establish a subspecialty clinic in limb deformity, caring for these high acuity patients in a subspecialty clinic appointment.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Pediatric Orthopedic Division

  • Be the program's primary face for patients for general questions and communication between patients and providers after outpatient clinic visits and surgical treatment. Triage and communicate problems with providers
  • Conduct post-discharge and post-surgical telephone follow-ups
  • Address or triage patient communications received via MyChart or telephone calls.
  • Communicate results from testing with patients after review by providers
  • Assist with medication refills as well as medication changes guided by the provider.
  • Obtain preapproval for medications and testing ordered by providers including completing required paperwork.
  • Complete work excuses, return to work forms, and preoperative clearance letters after discussion with providers.
  • Coordinate orthotic referrals for families, especially those with clubfoot.


Limb Deficiency Clinic

  • Attend clinic with providers and meet with patients at the time of visits after providers have seen patients to coordinate surgical plans and ensure patient understanding.
  • Provide pre-procedure instructions and assist with device teaching for patients who receive an external frame or internal implant requiring ongoing management.
  • Schedule and coordinate all appointments, changes in protocols, and tests ordered by providers. Follow up and ensure these items occur in a timely fashion. Communicate problems with ordering providers.
  • Be the program's main face for patients for general questions and communication between patients and providers.
  • Work with research staff to ensure proper follow-up and data collection for appropriate studies.
  • Ensure appropriate pre-op work-up is arranged and timed accordingly

Minimum Qualifications
  • Individual must be a registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
