General Summary:

Join the cutting-edge team at Vertex Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Research Associate for Cell Biology in our Tissue Dissection Group. Our Molecular & Cell Biology (MCB) group in San Diego is seeking an outstanding Senior Research Associate to work in our tissue dissection function to generate high quality cells from primary human tissues for numerous Vertex research programs.

The ideal candidate will have experience in human tissue dissection (especially DRG, lung, kidney & liver). This role will require the candidate to be reliable & flexible as donated tissues will require processing out-with normal working hours and during weekends. The ideal candidate will have the ability to drive method development & process optimization of dissection workflows. Familiarity with histological grossing & processing of tissues is a plus.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leverages technical experience to help prioritize studies, based on Project impact
• Performs basic statistical analysis of experimental data, where appropriate
• Conducts own experimental troubleshooting on routine problems
• Assists with publication and patent submission processes
• Prepares lucid protocols and written study reports
• Surveys relevant scientic literature to maintain awareness of issues and trends within the eld
• Present studies effectively at internal Group/Department or Project Team research meetings
• Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience in dissection of human organs, ideally whole human livers, lungs, and DRGs
• Ability to work on weekends and after business hours.
• Proven technical prociency and demonstrated skill in conducting and interpreting experiments.
• A basic understanding of biology principles.
• Uses technical knowledge to design and execute follow-up experiments
• Demonstrated understanding of analysis and interpretation of experimental data with prociency in problem solving and protocol renement
• Often deployed to investigations with more signicant consequences and need for reliability
• Effective communicator (written and verbal), especially within their technical area(s)

Education and Experience:

• Masters Degree (or equivalent degree) in biological science and 0-2 years of relevant employment experience, or
• Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) in biological science and 4+ years of relevant employment experience
