Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for identifying all financial aid resources available to prospective and current nursing students. This position also involves developing financial aid packages and monitoring budgets. The director is available to all Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing students for individual counseling. The director is responsible for awarding qualified nursing students merit and tuition scholarships and nurse faculty loans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Using the scholarship rubric, identify and award students who may be eligible for merit scholarships from the school of nursing. (10%)
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Finance and Administration, the Director of Finance, and the school of nursing development officer to allocate scholarship funds from the school of nursing endowments. (10%)
- Responsible for spending and tracking available endowment funds designated for the school of nursing scholarships. (10%)
- Counsel all other current students on individual financial aid awarded and available packages. (15%)
- Coordinate and manage financial aid, ensuring compliance with all federal, state and institutional aid regulations, policies and procedures. (10%)
- Use expertise from cross-training to support students in areas of registration and admission to the school of nursing. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS
- In conjunction with the project lead, identify the students who meet the criteria for the Nurse Faculty Loan program. Notify and award eligible students, inform them of what is involved in this program, and counsel individuals regarding acceptance of this program. (5%)
- Responsible for maintaining accurate data collected from students in the Nurse Faculty Loan Program and accurately completing the annual report to the health resources and services administration. (5%)
- Meet and advise prospective students as needed at open house or online information sessions. Schedule individual appointments and phone calls. (5%)
- Offer recommendations and update available scholarship opportunities for nursing students on the school¿s website. (5%)
- Collaborate with the school of nursing registrar for access to reporting numbers of students registered. (5%)
- Provide data to the office of development to share with donors interested in various academic programs in the nursing school. (5%)
- Respond to requests from the dean and associate dean for data on scholarship requests, scholarship recipients, and other financial aid issues and questions. (5%)
- Perform other duties as assigned. Assist with other school activities and special projects as needed (<1%)
CONTACTS
Department: Continuous contact with all Student Services staff, Faculty, and Staff with in the nursing school to maintain work flow.
University: Regular contact with student affairs, office of financial aid, student financials, undergraduate and graduate admissions and student loans, and university office of development to exchange information regarding student financial aid.
External: Regular contact with prospective students and families; Federal, State, and intuitional representatives and individuals providing scholarships and other forms of financial aid.
Students: Continuous contact with students with regards to financial aid updates and responding to inquiries.

QUALIFICAITONS
Experience: Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive financial aid experience with demonstrated ability to interpret federal, state, and institutional student financial aid guidelines and process requests for financial assistance.
Education: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

- Leadership, problem-solving, organization, management, and customer service skills required
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills: ability to communicate across differences, ability to work with educationally, geographically, and ethnically diverse groups of people.
- High level of independence and collaboration necessary.
- Computer and analytic skills required.
- In-depth knowledge of nursing is required.
- Knowledge of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and financial aid compliance.
- Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Fluctuating stress based on recruitment cycle and frequent deadlines. Candidate must balance multiple activities with competing demands. Occasional travel is required, using a personal vehicle. Engagement with prospective and current students and families is crucial within this position. Must provide guidance and counseling regarding eligibility and the application process for FA, ensuring that students are well-informed of their options.
