Salary range: The full pay range for this role is $27.00 to $46.00 per hour. The target range for this position is $33.00 to $38.00 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

Summary:

The Support Services Wind Technician, under specific direction from the Support Services Manager, maintains equipment, including but not limited to preventive maintenance and repairs as needed. This field technician will be expected to travel for extended periods of time working on EDF Renewable Energy projects as needed. When the Support Services Wind Technician is not traveling, he/she will be based at his/her assigned home site and will be directed by the Site Manager for that site. While traveling on behalf of EDF Renewable Energy/Renewable Services, you are expected to represent our organization and our core values at all times.

This position requires up to 85% travel.

Responsibilities
  • Work safely under all circumstances and seek guidance for any work for which they are unfamiliar or do not feel competent to perform safely.
  • Operate and care for company property and equipment in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Change gearbox oil in a designated area or wind field.
  • Grease/torque equipment.
  • May also service wind turbines based on the type of turbine (manufacturer) in multiple wind fields.
  • Perform "status" checks including clearing "error" codes on turbines and repairing the problems.
  • Replace mechanical components.
  • Service blade and hub components as required by turbine type.
  • Complete on a daily basis, service orders, time cards and any other required paperwork for the specific project/assignment.
  • All other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor or his/her designee

Working Conditions:

100% of time is spent working in the renewable asset field. There is also marginal time spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment.

This position requires working on platforms or skids, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and the repetitive use of legs, arms, hands, and fingers. The employee will work eight (8) hours a day, forty (40) hours a week, and overtime and night shifts as required.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to:

  • Extreme weather conditions, including cold, heat, rain, wind, etc.
  • High voltage and stored energy
  • Moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Confined spaces
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 to 2 years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards.
  • Must possess a valid current driver's license and successfully meet organizational requirements to operate motor vehicles.
  • Requires basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components of wind turbines/ photovoltaic power and energy storage systems.
  • Familiar with CSA Z462 / NFPA 70E and able to identify the appropriate PPE required for specific tasks and environments.
  • Requires basic understanding of schematics and can use a multi-meter correctly.
  • Able to demonstrate basic computer knowledge.
  • Successfully complete applicable safety and technical training program for the entry level technician.
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak clearly in English.

    • Be able to stand, crouch, walk, and work for extended periods of time.
    • Be able to operate company vehicles (field trucks) on site and on public roads and highways.
    • Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Be able to work in an electrical-mechanical environment.
    • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights more than 91 meters (300 feet).
    • Able to work at heights, including climbing up and descending towers, entering nacelles and hubs at extreme heights.
    • Be comfortable with working in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain.
    • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.

Special Conditions of Employment: Physical Weight Limit Restriction
Due to weight restrictions associated with life-saving fall-arrest equipment employees are required to wear
while working at heights, maximum employee weight must not exceed 285 lbs. Employee weight subject to
review at any time throughout the duration of employment and required annually at a minimum.
