Position Summary

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS salary schedule D: $41,282 – $92,513 (9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $12,746 – $28,612 (3 months)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
  • Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, at the Alabama Center of the Arts or at the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park Campus, including dual enrollment, traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education.
  • Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
  • Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.
  • Recruit students and grow a viable program with an acceptable graduation rate.
  • Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
  • Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  • Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  • Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  • Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  • Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  • Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  • Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism.
  • Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  • Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  • Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College CatalogPersonnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
  • Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 27 semester hours in the teaching discipline from an accredited institution is required. Master’s degree with at least 18 gradate semester hours in the teaching discipline preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years work experience mixing and mastering audio in a recording studio environment is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of live sound experience is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Pro Tools "User" level certificate.
  • Documented evidence in the proficiency of use current educational technologies in the classroom including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and/or presentation software.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject area including proper microphone/speaker technique and selection.
  • Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  • Experience in the design and construction of acoustically sound recording spaces;
  • Experience in the design of home and professional recording studios, including materials and equipment selection, providing cost analysis documentation, set-up/installation and maintenance of equipment;
  • Ability to recruit student to the program, and keep the program current and viable;
  • Previous experience using WebCT, Blackboard, or other course management software, from an instructor standpoint;
  • Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy, and new software, as required.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with diverse students, other employees, and the public.
  • Commitment to all students, including those of diverse ages, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Successful problem solving skills.
  • Successful college teaching experience.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.

PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. If desired, employee may elect four options rather than health insurance options to include hospital indemnity, cancer, dental, and vision.

Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:
1/3 waived after 1st year
2/3 waived after 2nd year
3/3 waived after 3rd year
