The basics of this position:

The Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) plays a pivotal role within the Human Resources Team, driving departmental goals by providing invaluable insights. This position collaborates closely with departmental heads to comprehend their business plans and strategically align HR activities to bolster and refine them. Operating across all HR disciplines, the Senior HRBP engages with staff, managers, and leadership to uphold the college's best practices and objectives, focusing on key areas such as performance management, employee relations, talent management, retention, compensation management, organizational development, and inclusion. Serving as a strategic partner, this role offers effective HR operational services and advice to business center leaders, managers, and staff to fortify the delivery of the College's strategic plans and organizational objectives.

What you'll do:

Strategic Partnership:

  • Collaborate with departmental leaders to comprehend business plans and align HR activities accordingly to support and enhance them.
  • Provide expert HR guidance and support to the assigned business unit across all areas of HR to uphold the college's best practices and objectives.

HR Liaison and Campus Collaboration:

  • Serve as the HR liaison across campuses to understand the HR needs of various locations and share findings with other areas of HR.
  • Collaborates with other areas of HR such as Total Rewards, Learning and Development or Recruiting to address strategic business needs of the assigned business unit.
  • Lead projects within HR and/or business unit to address the college’s strategic people needs.

Policy Work and HR Data Analysis:

  • Offer skilled input into a wide range of HR policy work, including
  • Manage complex employee and labor relations cases, ensuring valuable HR data and reporting for informed decision-making.

Talent Management and Development:

  • Provide guidance on restructuring, workforce planning, succession planning, and reclassifications.
  • Gather and analyze relevant data to identify gaps and priorities in talent management, performance management, and employee engagement.

Employee and Labor Relations:

  • Act as an employee champion, leadership coach, strategic partner, and change agent to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity, and retention.
  • Provide guidance and assistance on employee and labor relations issues, policy interpretation, communication, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • Serves as a key liaison during union activities such as collective bargaining or grievances.

Continuous Improvement and Compliance:

  • Partner with HR Specialists and HR Service Center to ensure life cycle transactions are managed in an organized and consistent manner using appropriate tools and resources.
  • Stay updated with HR best practices and collaborate with HR Specialists and HR Service Center to make recommendations for compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Utilize surveys, interviews, and other studies to research HR policies and employment issues, making recommendations for changes.
  • Document, update and maintain internal operating procedures and work instructions.

Leadership and Training:

  • Coach and train managers in their communication, feedback, recognition and interaction with employees.
  • In partnership with Learning and Development develops and implements competency, capacity-building and tailored training programs within assigned business unit and at times for entire college or HR department.
  • Attend HR and business unit meetings on any campus as needed.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible HR experience.
  • Previous experience working with multiple labor unions preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification is a plus.
  • Physical requirements: normal office environment, ability to sit, stand, and operate office equipment. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Other: Ability to be flexible to work outside of normal business operating hours when project demands.
