Center serves as a host school by offering field experience opportunities to students in the SUNY Broome Early Childhood/Teacher Education Department.

 


Job Description:

This position performs all kitchen duties associated with the program and provides flexible staffing support in the classrooms to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

This position reports to the Program Coordinator of the B.C. Center.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Cooperate with other staff members in order to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment, both indoors and outdoors
  • Prepare children's breakfasts and snacks in accordance with CACFP requirements.
  • Set up breakfast and lunch trays for each classroom in accordance with Broome County Department of Health guidelines.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes after breakfast and lunch; sanitize materials (i.e., toys) that have been mouthed or otherwise contaminated.
  • Wash and fold laundry.
  • Provide flexible staffing support to ensure that high quality care is provided in each classroom.
  • Learn the daily schedules to identify when each room is more likely to need additional staff support.
  • Communicate with Lead and Assistant Teachers in order to continue classroom activities when relieved teacher leaves the classroom.
  • Fill in for Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers and other floaters when they take PTO or call in sick.
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism for SUNY Broome Early Childhood/Teacher Education students who fulfill field requirements in the classroom.
  • Promote each child's self-esteem and independence by using positive guidance techniques.
  • Interact with children in a manner that is nurturing and respectful.
  • Assist Lead Teacher and Assistant Teachers in maintaining the cleanliness of the classroom and playground.
  • Interact with families in a respectful fashion.
  • Participate in staff meetings, center activities and staff training opportunities as required.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

 


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • One year of experience working with relevant age group (infant/toddler or preschool).

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lifting, carrying, and holding young children (infants, toddlers, and, sometimes, preschoolers).
  • Physically interacting with children in the classroom and playground (running, jumping, dancing, outdoor movement, etc.).
  • Continuous stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to perform kitchen duties and to get on children's eye level.
  • Quickly responding to unexpected physical circumstances.
  • Lengthy periods of working on one's feet; standing and walking.
  • Asking for assistance to perform physical demands if necessary to prevent injury (i.e., lifting heavy furniture or equipment).

Professional Requirements:

  • Familiarity with the New York State Child Day Care Regulations.
  • Effective communication skills - oral and written.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Openness to new ideas and being able to utilize constructive feedback from B.C. Center staff.
  • Willingness to take initiative and ask questions.
  • Genuinely enjoy being with children and provide them with care that is warm and nurturing.

 


Additional Information:

The hourly rate for this position is $15.53.

The hours for this position are 11:00am to 5:00pm.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
