Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, the Assistant Dean for Special Programs will work with senior leadership on the continued development, implementation and assessment of School-wide programs to improve recruitment, outreach, innovative experiential education, and DEI initiatives across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree required.

Experience:
Minimum 10 years of professional work experience in higher education administration, strategic planning, student development, and/or campus-wide programming.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience designing and conducting assessment activities.
  • Proven track record of successful grant proposal submissions.
  • Proven track record of building successful partnerships focused on research development and/or student recruitment.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills; Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; Team player with empathy, respect for others, and a collaborative approach; Ability to respectfully lead and guide others, while also being a good listener who is open to new ideas; Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and working relationships with others.
  • Understands, is sensitive to, and respects the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities, and sexual orientation of students, faculty, administrators, and staff; fosters collaboration and consensus building.
  • Excellent knowledge of management information systems and software programs, and comfort in working with academic and alumni databases.
  • Ability to act independently, take initiative, build consensus, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and develop policy and procedure related to program initiatives.
  • Proven track record of connecting and working with diverse populations in higher education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness impacting and leading diversity, inclusion, and organizational change initiatives.

Additional Information:

Salary  range $160,000-$200,000.
