Job Summary:
The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus employs 4,500+ individuals, instructs over 18,000 students, and has a budget of $3.3 billion. The Finance Office is responsible for all University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus accounting and financial functions which include but are not limited to:
- the maintenance of financial systems,
- reporting of financial information,
- capital construction accounting,
- reconciliations between the general ledger and related subsystems,
- accounting feed/interface with the State’s accounting system,
- providing accounting support to various campus departments,
- internal reviews,
- interpretation/compliance of state, federal, and university fiscal rules.
This position serves as the liaison for the State Interdepartmental billings and data entry in the State’s finance system, CORE (Colorado Operations Resource Engine). Duties include creating various journals to CORE and requesting funding for the state funded controlled maintenance projects and capital construction project and performing various exhibit reconciliations. This position also assists with the annual research space survey process. In addition, this position supports the plant fund and cost accounting areas that include performing General Administrative Recharge (GAR) and General Infrastructure Recharge (GIR) journal entries and maintaining the related allocation module.
Key Responsibilities
Space Survey Process – 35%
- Conduct WebSpace maintenance related to annual software upgrades and intermittent server updates.
- Create general ledger source data (employee data, payroll, and chartfield attributes) via CIW queries and upload the information into WebSpace for the annual space survey.
- Monitor and review space survey inputs by campus departments into WebSpace. Resolve errors and/or irregularities in a timely manner.
- Assist with annual space survey training.
CORE Exhibits and Reconciliations – 20%
- Reconcile interfund and intra-fund transfer account codes and resolve any variances internally and/or with other state agencies.
- Prepare the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (SLFRF) Reporting for capital construction projects.
- Prepare Budget and Cash Analysis for the Fitzsimons Trust Fund.
Plant Fund and Cost Accounting – 20%
- Maintain the General Administrative Recharge (GAR) salary and non-salary allocation trees in the general ledger to ensure correct charge distribution by speedtype.
- Prepare General Infrastructure (GIR) master schedule for each new fiscal year. This includes determining assignable square footages of auxiliary programs that are subject to GIR space charges and confirming the space allocation and speedtype with the departmental program fiscal manager.
CORE Data Entry – 15%
- Create various CORE documents for the reimbursement of capital construction expenses funded by the State of Colorado and processing the related journal entries and capital construction budgets.
- Request cash reimbursement from the State marijuana tax revenue fund and the tobacco settlement fund.
State Interdepartmental (IT) Billing – 5%
- Download electronic data from the State reporting system related to campus services incurred for mail, telephone, and motor pool services monthly.
- Create journal entries to reallocate applicable IT charges to various campus departments.
Automated Journal Entries via the General Ledger Allocation Module – 5%
- Create and maintain the automated journal entry process via general ledger allocations for a variety of campus functions (cost center reallocations, revenue recognition, cash rollup, etc.).
Work Location:
This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. This position is not eligible for 100% remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, business administration or a directly related field from an accredited institution with 24 semester hours in accounting and/or auditing.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Intermediate Level:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, business administration or a directly related field from an accredited institution with 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
- One year of professional level experience in a finance or accounting role.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience at a Higher Education Institution or State of Colorado Agency.
- Experience working with the University of Colorado’s Accounting System.
- Experience with Colorado’s financial system CORE.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standard pronouncements.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills with ability to maintain excellent customer service to various campus departments.
- Attention to detail and sound judgement.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range for this position has been established as:
Entry Level: $50,000 - $60,000
Intermediate Level: $55,638 - $60,000
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
