Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.
The Coordinator of CTE Initiatives assists with strategies related to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Academy program and related undertakings. Provides expertise, knowledge, assistance, leadership, development, promotions, and support to all Academy career and technical education staff, students, courses, and programs. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Professional & Career Studies at Central Virginia Community College.
- Works directly with each participating school division to support programming and provide leadership and expertise.
- Helps to ensure Career and Technical Education (CTE) program activities meet the standards and requirements of the Virginia Department of Education, the Virginia Community College System, and the local businesses and industries.
- Collaborates with college staff regarding Perkin’s grant funding and other initiatives to recruit minority and female students to address disparities in the workforce
- Provides support and professional development opportunities to CTE faculty
- Assists with the development and implementation of standards, policies and procedures related to career and technical education
- Contributes to the development of short- and long-range goals for the CTE Academy; monitors the progress of various services; makes recommendations for changes.
- Monitors program attrition and works with programs to increase retention and completion
- Develops and analyzes CTE data to identify strategies to improve instruction and performance.
- Works closely with student support services to provide students with assistance to include credit audits, schedule changes, planning and follow through.
- Prepares and submits associated state and federal reports in a timely manner.
- Serves as a career coach for students enrolled in CTE programs
- Develops and fosters collaborative relationships with school divisions, departments, business and industry groups, and the community
- Contributes expert information to interested parties about secondary education and post-secondary education requirements, standards, and preparation.
- Monitors student enrollment, attrition, retention and completion of CTE programs
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Thorough knowledge of secondary and special education principles, practices and procedures
- Experience in education; specifically, career and technical education
- Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members.
- Strong organizational and planning skills required.
- Experience working with diverse populations with a commitment to promoting diversity, opportunities and inclusion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Master’s degree in education, business or related field.
- Prior experience in K-12 CTE education
- Experience in a community college setting
- Experience with event coordination
- General understanding of career readiness and work-based learning
